European Indoor Championships 2009 This weekend were the first EFRA Indoor European Championships held in Turino (Italy) at the old Fiat factory which is now a big shopping mall. The race saw 80 top touring car racers attending. The track was situated in a 14 x 30 meter area. It was small and very technical and challenging for the drivers. There wasn't much space to overtake, so the qualification was very important.
Picture of Ronald Völker's new updated Hot-Bodies Cyclone, by PetitRc.com In the practise sessions it was the Swede XRay driver Alexander Hagberg who set the fastest times. The TRF-Team was setting a good pace also. Andy Moore and Ronald Völker were driving a updated version of their Hot-Bodies Cyclone's. Alexander Hagberg continued to set the good pace in the first rounds of the qualification, and it looked like he was on TQ pace. In the last heat it was the Dutch TRF-driver Jilles Groskamp who was able to put the fastest run. Combined with his other results was Jilles able to take the pole position in front of Alex and current outdoor European and World Champion Marc Rheinard. The first A-Main started with a collision between Jilles Groskamp and Alexander Hagberg which allowed Marc Rheinard to cross the finishing line first. Marc won the first a-main in front of his teammates Viktor Wilck and Jilles Groskamp. In the third main was won by Alexander Hagberg in front of Marc Rheinard and former World Champion Andy Moore. For the last main had the Tamiya TRF-Team made some set-up adjustments which turned really well out. Jilles Groskamp was on a perfect run followed by Marc Rheinard who was chased by Alexander Hagberg. With just one minute to race Marc made a mistake and crashed his car, which gave Alexander Hagberg the win. But after a couple laps Alex made also a mistake and gave the overall victory back to Marc. By finishing good in the last main Jilles en Viktor took the second and third spot of the podium. With some luck and great driving Tamiya, Speed Passion, SMC and WAS Racing had taken a complete podium;
